BIMMERPOST NEWSAlpina B3 (F30) Revealed with 410 HP. Debuts at Geneva Motor Show Alpina has revealed some initial specs and first full photo of its new B3 Bi-Turbo, based on the F30 335i sedan. Updated with newly released specs (2/27/13): The F30 B3 boasts more power and torque than the E90 B3, yet is 20% more gas efficient. The new B3 Bi-Turbo delivers 410 HP (301 kW) starting at 5500 RPM (compared to the US F30 335i with 300 HP), and and 442 lb-ft (600Nm) torque. Transmission comes in the form of a ZF 8 speed automatic. 0-100kmh (0-62 mph) takes only 4.2 seconds. Top speed is 305 km/h (189 MPH). Emissions decreases by 7.6 L per 100 km, to 177 g / km CO2. Full specs (and photos) of the car will be revealed when it debuts at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show early next month. Unfortunately, like the previous B3 model, we do not expect this new B3 to be made available in the U.S. (though it's always possible down the line if Alpina sees a business case for it). I want to know if it's the same ZF tranny model in the standard cars or a beefier one. Might give us some insight if Alpina feels a 100hp and likely sizeable torque increase is safe on the current tranny we have which isn't rated to go that much higher torque wise.

It's faster than a 911 and Cayman. And has 4 doors.
And is fuel efficient. And isn't being sold in the US... This is like an epic win and fail post all in one ![]()

the B7 was lack luster because it's just too big of a car. I think it's much more easier for Alpina (or any other tuner for that matter) to use the 3-Series chassis and make it a better car.

I meant it was lackluster because it did not make the power it advertised.

The ZF transmission is modular and can be had with a torque converter, automated clutch or electric motor.

It's kind of the same tranny. The beefier tranny versions of what is currently in the 335i cars have different dimensions than our current tranny. A swap would likely require drivetrain modification (shorter driveshaft, etc).

No, he's got a point. Our cars make peak hp at 5800 rpm and redline at 7000 rpm I believe. That would mean the Alpina makes peak hp at an even lower 5500 rpm assuming the same redline. My guess is they're tapering off boost a little early to promote longevity, and/or the turbos just can't breathe up there.

Yes alot of the dynos used today are AWD. They are setup to do both RWD and AWD. They used a correction factor but it still came in way below.. Not to mention driving it against the S8 also helped prove how over rated it is.

These numbers are very believable. You don't need a hell of a lot of an increase in boost to find 100 HP. |
