Replying to text messages whilst on the move

I have the Pro Nav, and find it pretty handy to be able to read (or have it dictated) any new SMS messages that I get whilst I'm driving.

But I can't find anyway of replying to the messages. There appears to be a dictate option - but I have to be STOPPED ? Whats the point in that ?!?!? And I think I can only reply to an EMAIL address - even if I get an SMS ???

Am I going about it wrong? Is there a way to reply (preferably dictate) to an SMS ?

Andy

I haven't found a way to do it, but then just calling the person if they need a reply seems easier

Mine requires you to be stationary too. I have tried it but it never worked.

Not ideal, but I would have thought most smartphones would do this natively? So Siri on the iPhone....

Even if it worked whilst moving it won't work with iPhones at all.

Would be great if we had a Siri button on the steering wheel.

I have Bluetooth retrofitted to my E46 3 series sport. On the steering wheel to activate Siri, I simply keep the call button pressed for a couple of seconds. This activates Siri and I can give any command and reply to texts etc...

So does the call button no longer work the same way?

Lol, at the mis-quotes

Oooh haven't tried that, just get the BMW sorry with a short push......sorry because it gets everything wrong and takes so long to carry out commands.

Lol. Using the Bimmerpost app on the phone and it messed up the quotes. I made it worse trying to fix. Be interesting to find out when you're next in the car again to see if it works....

If not I will sooo miss it. Use it also to issue commands to play certain albums /playlists etc while driving as well as the commands to call people...

I have the new pro nav in mine, which comes with Dragon Drive Dictation and allows you to dictate a text or email response while driving; though unfortunately I haven't actually got it to send with my iPhone 5 yet!

Whatever next?

Me - Did you see that cyclist?!
Siri - I have not. (genuine answer!)

Me - Am I going to run out of petrol?
Siri - I found fifteen petrol stations... twelve of them are fairly close to you.

Me - I feel so inadequate. What can I do?
Siri - Have you considered a 330d?

Hopefully Apple's eyes free feature will be made available to existing F3X drivers:

Each time I click on call after a text comes in, it dials the most random number ever and fails. Never understood why that happens to me.

Do you need the BMW Apps option for this to work or just the Professional Nav option ?

Ask Siri to talk dirty to you! It is so funny what it comes back with. Had me in stitches...
It's not what you would expect...

I finally worked out how to do this.

Whilst stationary you have to enable Dragon Naturally Speaking on the Pro Nav. Register and you get 60 days free. Then you pay £20 a year.

And by gum .. it actually works. Its dependent on your phones internet access for the service - but it works perfectly well.

I can now reply to emails, and or text messages on the move just through dictation.

I set it up a while ago but I could never get it to actually send anything using an iPhone. It says sent but nothing arrives. What phone do you have? Should work for BlackBerrys and HTC's.
