My Fiance and I are looking for an old 2002 or 1600 model BMW

to restore and give to her dad as a present. does anyone have any insight on a good place to purchase such vehicle? We are going to tear it apart and build it up from scratch. Probably on a rotisserie. Perks of having a 5 car garage I guess.

I would buy a copy of Hemmings... You might be able to find a clean original or restored car. IF you restore one yourself... it will be years down the road when that project is finished.
