But I digress. It's a 328i, not a 335i, most people dont buy the smaller engine of the line to 'race'. Even a 335 wont beat some of the cars listed here without extensive mods. For example, I'd get my butt handed it me if I took my 335 against a new Mustang GT or Camaro SS. But we already know that those cars will beat us in a straight line and on the track...

Most SRT8's are not mid 12 cars. I have seen them run 14's at the track. The newer ones "can be 12" second cars.

Besides racing cars that are faster is the whole point. I would always want to be the better driver with the slower car than the opposite.

I beat a Camaro SS from a dig and I'm bone stock. We raced three times because he could not accept it either.

Fair point, from a dig, the driver mod plays a big factor in high hp cars. He probably didnt know how to launch it properly. Try it again at speed and I'm certain you'll see a different outcome.

Although it does seem that the pre 2013's/non 1LE SS's arent much faster than the 335, even in the 1/4. But the 1LE is in a different world. Running the 1/4 a full second faster than the 335 and 0-60 in low 4s. That and from the lightning lap, we all know what they can do around the track. Not bad for a $37k car.

The GT is a beast too, better than the regular SS's (not 1LE). Too bad american muscle dont make a smooth auto transmission like can be found in the 3 series or I may have seriously thought about buying one.

Manuals are great fun, but not so much in city traffic for daily driving.

Drag racing involves skill. A good 60 foot time is everything. An inadequate launch and you lose a second or more of ET. We have all seen very fast cars, piloted by an average street driver, run mediocre times at the track.

However. everything equal an SRT8 will run away from an F30. The F30 is not a speed demon - no inner beast to unleash.

Of course, but here we are talking roll-on in a straight line. This is pure car; no skill required.

I am not sure the stock SRT8 is a mid 12's. The C63 is and, like I mentioned, it was not close in my 335 against the C63. It was interesting that from about 30mph to about 100mph it was basically a dead heat with the SRT8. Maybe it has to do with traction like some have suggested and perhaps driver skill too. I will install the JB4 next month and see how I do against the C63. I have only been to a drag strip very few times. The reason I got the BMW is because I like HPDE's.

I have yet to drive a 1LE but may test drive one this weekend. I have driven the 2013 Boss 302 and the GT500 both very fast cars. I am not sure I could live them as a daily driver but they are a lot of fun to drive.

Believe it or not I raced a 5.0 GT today from a 20 mph roll and slowly pulled him. He must not know how to drive because he should be 4 tenths faster than me. I don’t care because I won and winning is winning. lol

The new charger SRT8 is faster no doubt but a 06-10 is about even with 335i.

Rolls do require alot of skill. If you ever raced a manual muscle car you know every shift must be fast and at the right time. Not to mention the launch is everything. In automatics other then a few good ones. Knowing what gear your in and the kickdown delay, shift points can be a second difference.

The I think the F30 335i has a inner beast inside. It needs a stage 2 JB4 with Meth. I wait for this day

I used to street race - when I was in high school. Then I grew-up. Now the only time I drive like that is on a track, with other people who voluntarily signed-up for the danger, who are presumably sober, where no kids go chasing balls into the street, where I don't risk jail or voluntary manslaughter charges...you get the point.

pkim is right...take it to the track. Get an instructor and spend months learning to drive. Once you do that, you will realize that the driver has more to do with going fast than the car does.
