Aaaah, yes. For 5 grand or under, I'd be looking at a good used Rolex Submariner. I love mine and can sell it for more than I bought it for a year ago.

Omega Speedmaster is another great choice.

There's lots of Sinn watches for under 5 too.

Tag Link series are in that range too.

How do you know which Submariner would increase in value? Or does it simply just increase regardless. That's impressive.

Regular stainless Sub, Z series. I paid 4800 a year ago and I see many for sale today in the 5500-5600 range.

Back when I bought mine, 4800 was the going rate, I checked.

I've been watching prices since I got my Sub a year ago, and it seems the Stainless Sub is a good investment.

My daily is a Bell & Ross BR02 on a custom Rob Montana strap. Most BR's are under 5k and definitely have an iconic look.

for the money, skip the U-boat, they tend to be gigantic (though cool in their own right) but it seems you are avoiding that style now, which is what I would group the Hublot in somewhat.

Panerai sits on the fence for me for that styling. (I own a panerai, it has it's uses, mostly used in boating season)

It's sounding to me like you are appreciating the more subtle watches on your wrist at this point, so I would go with what some others have recommended, JLC reverso 1931
I know you said no omega, but try on a Speedmaster Professional before you completely take it off your list (not just the regular speedmaster, has to be the professional if you want watch afficianados to take you seriously)
The Tag Monaco is a nice watch, but being from Tag, it is a bit of a fence sitter. It is one of the few watches by them that the watch lovers will take a bit more seriously. Especially in blue. I was wearing that one yesterday actually.

Rolex submariner no date is one on my list, but the only reason I hold back, everyone recognises a rolex on peoples wrists, and I don't want that kind of attention for myself.

The Cartier Ballon Bleu is a neat looking watch, very classy.

unfortunately your price limit is actually a very hard one to hit. there's lots of watches in the 3k range, and lots in the 7K+ range, that 4-6 is a bit elusive. there's a major quality shift when you're playing in that area.

Best bang for buck watches on the market in my opinion are from Nomos Glashutte They are all in house movement and decorated like 7-10k watches for between 1500-5000. German made to go with your German car.

the ones in the watch winders are all over 1000$ value, the ones in the watch boxes are all 1000 and under

all the 1000 and under ones are from before I learned anything about watches. And still get worn from time to time depending what the occasion calls for.

This is already sort of happening but you make some very good points and understand my situation. You're right, my price range is at the cusp of the quality shift. I'll take a look at the Speedmaster Professional again and see if it's something I like.

I'm in no rush, so it's fun to discuss with others who have taken the journey and have several watches like this.

My first "adult watch" I bought was a Raymond Weil Parsifal. I researched quite a bit before I purchased about 4 years ago. A little over $1000. I get compliments on it often.

I have 2 out of all those that I would sell as they don't make me feel inspired like the others. But I have to wear them a few more times each to be certain

It's good you're taking your time! There are a lot out there. To prove it, I pretty much spent a couple of hours a day for the better part of a year researching watches and am still surprised every once in a while when I come across a brand I haven't seen yet. So many new watches come out every year too, it's hard to keep track of.

Things like the Rolex will stay with a very consistent design for a long time, which is good in many ways. You're not always looking for the next new version because they are few and far between. That being said, they redesigned a lot and introduced a couple in the last few years to try and update their image. But I suspect most will stay as the new design for many years before this happens again.

I like that Nomos but wish it had all of the time zones and was priced closer to their other models.

I'm eyeing a Vulcain Dual Time as I really don't like the GMT function of my Sinn or my previous Rolex.
