Good morning, quick question. If you build an f30 with a NAV system does it come pre-loaded with all the maps/data from the factory? Or when it arrives at the dealer does the NAV need to be loaded/configured? If so, does anyone know how long this takes? Thanks.

Nav comes preloaded with all the data, the dealer just has to activate it with an FSC code at delivery. Mine came with the 2012 maps and I d/l the 2013 maps and it didn't even ask me for one.

How do you know if you have the 2012 or 2013 maps? And how do you download new maps?

I got my car on 12/21. I was supposed to pick up on 12/20 but I was told the nav indicated it needed to be updated. I was told it takes about 1 hr (probably less) to update the nav.

When in the navigation menu, just press the option button on the iDrive controller and scroll to the bottom where you can choose to view the map data info.

As for the new maps, you can purchase them from BMW which comes on a USB stick for updating. Otherwise, you can find *ahem* shadier sources for the files. They clock in around 20-something gigabytes. You'll still need an FSC Code if it's required.

just noticed mine has the 2012 maps....if i were to come across the file....what are the chance it would ask for a FSC code?

If you just took delivery of the car within the last month or so, then the dealership more than likely used a 2013 FSC code to activate the 2012 maps. That means you can activate any year map data up to and including the 2013 release.

There are some 2013 discs doing the rounds on the UK E90 section. Would these be the same as for the F30?

I will be able to confirm this later today. Took delivery of the car 2 weeks ago. Just need to go pick up a bigger flash drive in a bit!

I believe that the discs are the same across model platforms, but I may be wrong on that one (I recall seeing a chart that listed nearly every model and year that the discs were applicable to and it was pretty much everything). If it's just a download it can't hurt to try.

There are different disks for North America and for Europe. I don't think you want to load the European ones on your US car.

never made it to the store to get the 32gb flash drive. will try tomorrow. if not, dont i have the right to ask the dealer to update my maps? I took delivery on a MY 2013 the last week of 2012 and it had the old maps!

I took delivery mid December and maps data shows 2013-1A. I suppose thats current?

Yes that is. Your dealer updated the software or did not have the car in inventory very long.

Custom order. Picked up car just a few days after arrival. They did tell me it took a few days to get a code from BMWNA to activate the Nav.

Ha ha, obviously! That would be an interesting conversation with the dealer when you roll up with an entirely different continent on your iDrive screen.

You'd have thought so but they're not called stealers for nothing!
