F30 Ride Comfort with 19" Wheels & RFT
Looking to purchase a 19" summer tire package with a wheel slightly larger than the current 18" wheel and a tire with a bit more depth and bite in the corners.
My F30 Active Hybrid 3 has the 'standard' suspension and looking for ride characteristics similar to the E90 335i. Any recommendations on an OEM wheel and tire set? |

with the current soft-monger boaty boat-king suspension it will still feel soft. I'm on 19's with stock M-SPort suspension and it's still wallows around like a banana mobile. My stock 135i felt like a lambo compared to this thing.

obviously I'm over-exaggerating a bit but if you get to do a relative comparison to any E9x you'll notice how much more taut the steering and suspension is. Yes, the F30 chasis is more rigid, perhaps, but they have softened things up so much it is not that apparent over normal driving.
In my F30, I float and bounce over the same bumps on the way home from work where my older E9x and E8x took those bumps with aplomb and comfort yet still felt sporty and tight. It's too bad, really. I understand the need to cater to the old Gen-Xer's, who continue to be loyal and who are much older now, but it really does push away those who who began buying these cars in the late 90's and are used to the sporty and no-compromise driving feel. Funny thing is, I actually do have friends who are now older and are happy that the new 3er's are bigger and softer as they now have kids and aren't as inherent to do too much spirited driving anymore. It is what it is I guess...I say it sucks.

I can only tell you I have 19" avant garde M310's on Continental DWS's. On the adaptive suspension it is super smooth in comfort mode. In sport plus it is stiff. I hear so many complain about the F30 suspension except those with DHP. Guess that is a option people wanting a stiffer suspension should have checked. That or put on the M Performance Suspension.

Don't people do test drives? How do you not know that the base suspension is soft before you buy the car? If you want to corner and you don't spring for a line with the sport suspension or DHP and spec summer tires you have nobody to blame but yourself.
Worse ride doesn't mean better handling necessarily, by the way. F30 328i sport line on all-season run flats puts up the same acceleration and lateral g numbers as the E46 330i ZHP on staggered summer tires that everyone jerks off to around here. |

Reply to sean10mm...
Wheel diameter, tire depth, sidewall height, and rubber compound impact ride quality. If you are intellectually bankrupt on these factors, take a hike. Quote:

Anyhow, to answer your question... the 19's with lower profile tires (especially RTFs) will make you hit bumps harder. But if you're looking for the panted feel that an E90 M-Sport has, then you need to change the suspension on the F30. Tires will give you more grip but won't help too much in the body roll department. |
