Rust in F30 Seats Problem Goes Global (& Viral)
FYI, the rust in F30 seats problem has gone global, with one South Korean owner destroying his F30 in protest...
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=777392 The "Rust in Seat Base ?" thread by therudies86 which was originally posted in the Australian forum has also gone global, and has moved to the General forum (I assume for greater exposure)... http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=726583 As a result of the exposure, some owners in the US are reporting similar rust problems in their new F30s. Refer to the above threads for more info. EDIT: For completeness, I added the poll from Post #17 into this post: [Poll] Do you have rusty seat frame bases? http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=781312 Last edited by bcoz; 01-08-2013 at 08:55 PM. Reason: Added the Poll. |

Agree, it should not happen, but really, its surface rust under a seat. There are a lot worse things that can go wrong with a car. I think its been blown out of proportion to some extent.

I'm missing your point. You quote me saying "first world problem" by replying "but a problem nonetheless".
![]() I've got some rust spots on the base of my sports seats in the 328, but if this is my biggest problem in the world right now I reckon I'm doing pretty good. |

But hey, as you said, everyone here must be doing pretty decent, considering we're on the internet complaining about a little rust in a portion of the seat that isnt really visible... |

So, until BMW paints new seat rails and sends them out to dealers for a recall, nothing will happen. But given how tight there margins have been recently, I don't see that happening.

If the lack of rust proofing was the fault of the seat supplier, then BMW QC should have picked up on such a major change in component specifications (inadvertent or otherwise). Alternatively, if the lack of rust proofing was the result of a deliberate change in BMW design specifications, then such a change should only have been approved after rigorous testing by BMW (comfort, stress, durability, etc). Either way, it's a major failure by BMW. Quality control is not limited to operation and visual aesthetics. It's also about comfort, build, ambience, performance, durability, etc. |
