Any way to get more growl out of 328i?
I have a baseline 2012 328i sedan, I was wondering if there is any way to get some more engine sound out of without opting for a 1200$ exhaust.
I really like how it sounds when you turn it on a cold start then the growl disappears. |

Ah, I did it for kicks, it's pretty easy. Will require getting on your back and looking around the muffler section. There's a 'spring' loaded flap that, if you remove the 'spring', you can secure the flap open.

For maybe $50 you could have the resonator cut out and straight piped. The standard exhaust is pretty well crafted. It's mostly 3".

Did any of you delete the resonator already?! I've changed the DP, and was willing to get a sporty sound. Deleting the resonator and using a race DP will make it sound good or maybe it's too loud?!

Personally, I've run into one individual with a "racey" downpipe and found that it, to me, just sound really good. There's not a lot of drone inside the cabin as the sound-proofing done by BMW is quite good but, take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Downpipe without cat's will give you what you're after for a bit less than an axle-back. As a few guys above said, the stock system is actually pretty good work.
I'll be springing for the M Performance exhaust myself rather than fiddle with the DP's this time around, but as you said that's out of your price range. |
