Nokia 920 windows mobile8 wow texting
I was excited to see the new iPhone iOS provided text and email to be pushed to iDrive. It required many clicks to read a new message and you could not reply..
well. The new win mobile 8 nokia 920 does it the right way. ![]() When i get an incoming text the phone pauses all audio and ask if i want to read and from whom..it reads aloud and ask if i want to reply..i reply all by voice.. never have to pick up my phone anymore..This all happens thru the cars audio system. Its much safer.. see little video i made this am.. Also if i plug the phone into my USB for audio the Bluetooth still works like it should. So i can receive phone calls thru BT while i listen to music off my 920.

Awesome!
You have the Apps and Ext. Bluetooth option right? Or is this just because of the phone type?

So the prompts / voice dictation is being powered by the phone right?
Interesting that it pops up as a 'call' from what I assume is yourself. Great that it works though, definitely tempting. |

No I only have nav and ext Bt.. No apps. Its the phone that does the work. I have heard it works the same in many other brand cars.
We also tested in an e90 without nav. Worked the same. Only problem with the woke thing is I cannot initiate a new text unless I hold down windows button to start the session.

Were you able to get all your contacts into the onboard computer? I tried, but only one showed up along with some telephone numbers... somehow it managed to be the person I call the most.

Windows Phone 7 also did this (as least in my current A4).
The phone just treats the car as a Bluetooth headset. (The "Speech" setting lets you control when the phone reads texts aloud.) ![]() Note that in WP7, the transcription of your spoken reply goes out over the cellular connection to be converted into text. I don't know if that's still true with WP8, which does have more in-device speech capabilities. |

Does the win mobile 8 have anything like BMW connected drive? Can you send map destinations to the Nav from the phone? Can you pre-condition the car from the phone? Can you find the car from your phone?
Not poking-really wondering. Have an iPhone 4s right now and thinking of switching to the Lumia 920 when my contract runs out.

No BMW apps yet. That's the major lacking point of the WP8 is the lack of apps.
Find car only works within a .5 mile anyways so it was useless on my iphone to me. And it took forever to submit a command to unlock or lock the car.
