Sport + vs traction off
Do not know why BMW has it set up this way, when u have the traction completely off the car shows sport oriented suspension but throttle response is softened (seems like throttle in comfort mode) unlike the sport or sport +, why?

So, were u in Sport or Sport + prior to turning DSC off? Or were you in Comfort, then turning it off? Cause I donīt think turning DSC off changes whatever throttle-mode youīre in so unless you actually were in Sport, the throttle response shouldnīt get sportier. I donīt know this for a fact but it seems logical to me..

The original poster is correct I've experienced the same thing. Turning off traction control seems to take the car out of sport mode. What I found works is to push the shifter into manual shifting. If you don't shift yourself the car will shift as if it is in the sport setting.

Can confirm here. Turning off traction control completely puts you back in comfort mode.

DSC remains on when DTC is activated either by enabling SPORT+ or by pressing the DSC button once. SPORT+ automatically enables DTC so you can get tail happy, but DTC's other function is to provide a greater slip threshold on looser surfaces where momentum is key. If DSC remained on in full force, the car would instinctively cut power and apply the brakes when slippage is needed. This loose threshold, combined with default COMFORT mode (the car calls this TRACTION mode), provides for more dramatic weight transfer/squat (think: putting sandbags over the powered axles) and allows you to make more deliberate throttle inputs to get yourself out of a ditch, snow bank, or up wet/slippery inclines. (Note: if you do not have the adaptive suspension, COMFORT only applies to throttle response). DSC OFF, which requires that you hold the DSC button for a number of seconds, puts everything in SPORT and leaves managing the car's dynamics up to you.
This is why SPORT+ is simply SPORT with DTC enabled. If you press the button for DTC in SPORT or COMFORT, the car will go into TRACTION mode. But SPORT+ is the only way to turn DTC on without enabling TRACTION mode. So you can think of SPORT+ as power slide mode.

Hmm, maybe it's because the throttle response in Sport is too aggressive to run in DSC off-mode.. certainly interestin.

Sport+ just turns dynamic traction on - a little more slip but you're not gonna be sliding all over the place. As far as feeling like its back in comfort mode when turning traction off completely, its just the throttle. And when you are sliding like that, you want to be able to feather the gas a lot more than basically having an on/off switch of a gas pedal. Maybe its just safety.

Sport+ doesn't just do DTC folks - it also sets the gearbox to manual

Yes it's the only way you can get it not to change gear in the auto

![]() But I think it's been answered a few times already and basically the throttle response in Comfort is the true response and Sport is more or less an ON/OFF setting. When DSC is off, for your own safety, the throttle responds realistically. And I would assume that if in Sport, you still get the shift points and quicker shifts. Who's with me? ![]()

Be mindful not to refer to DSC OFF as Trac Off, because DSC is stability control.

Also when your traction and DSC is all off your e-diff (not a true lsd of course) is in the works. I believe it states that in the owners manual. It would be nice to have the peddle response as it would be in the sport+ mode for some foreplay

![]() BTW, has anyone had any sideways fun in their 328 yet? Is it powerful enough to do it? Merely curious... ![]()
