Door handle lights in Reverse?? - BMW 3-Series Forum (F30 / F32)

Somewhere i read that the lights under the door handles were supposed to light up when you put your car in reverse to light up the area around the car for the side view cameras. Does anyone know if this is true?

Mine does...though I didn't notice it until the dealer programmed my Auto/Start/Stop system to "Last Setting" so I wonder if its a more recent program for that module (similar to how the signals flash 3 times when using CA to open the trunk)...

hmm.. that leads me to believe it can be coded as a setting. I will have to ask this question in the coding thread to see if anyone knows where it is.

Could it be that the handle lights only light up in reverse and with a car equipped with surround camera's ? Mine doesn't light up in reverse; I don't have camera's.

Mine light up when I unlock my vehicle, they stay on as I reverse my vehicle...as soon as I place said vehicle into drive, the lights slowly fade. I have no camera.

UK - got Front & Rear PDC with Reversing Camera and my door handle lights do not come on in reverse.

it has to be a coding thing since some have it and some dont. i have PDC and all cameras but mine dont light up in reverse but for others they do.

Same for me started working after dealer did a software update to fix another issue. Trunk lights flash 23 times on kick-open, and door lights come on when in reverse. I do not have the cameras.

Btw I highly recommend the software update because my ASS works better since the update as well...don't go there...

Mine does it and I haven't had the update. My guess is it was a change for 2013 and the people with 2012s that have had their software updated get the change.

Yes you are probably right, mine is a very early 2012. Highly recommended update for all 2012 owners.

I didn't ask for it specifically, but I was having an issue with electric window on one of the back doors not doing 'auto-up' correctly. The dealer told me they fixed it by carrying out a software update for the car, not just for the window but the whole car.

So I would just ask the dealer for it. one sure way to tell is if you get the 3-blinks on rear lights when doing 'kick-open' trunk.

9/10 times it doesn't work and when/IF it works I'm glad I'm not getting the trunk/boot in my face/mouth so I don't care about those 3 blinks tbh.

That is hilarious you are getting the trunk in your face when you use the kick-open...do you crouch over the trunk then try to kick-open it? Or do you have a a very unusual body shape?

My 328 is made on mid 2012, June 26 I think. But the door handle light doesnt light up when reversing. Maybe software update will do.

Just like most other stuff, my F30 does not light up its door handles on reverse. :-( Only when I unlock the doors and open the doors after I turn off the ignition.

Mine light up in reverse. Must be the programming changes with newer manufacturing (mine was July 2013). Someone on another thread who went to the dealer to get last driver remembered also noticed that the sideviews blink when opening the trunk with CA, the rear windows go up/down with one touch and the door puddle lights go on in reverse. Sounds like a trip to the dealer will fix this for those in this thread who don't have the reverse lights.
