Not true.
I specced them on my 2006 E60 520d - silent.
2009 E90 LCI 330d - silent.
2012 F30 328i - silent.

They're absolutely solid so these prejudices of them rattling and making noise are now, total rubbish.They might've been back in the day, although I had a 2003 Jaguar X-Type and that had split folding seats to the refinement of the BMW's.
This may be true for less reputable car companies, such as Mercedes

This. I finally went to use the fold down option recenty which I understood came in my car and it took me 15 mins to find the damn levers!

RTFM?!?!!! That was no help. Found the by trial and error / process of elimination.
