BMW SA factory builds quality cars and BMW monitors the OEMs and material suppliers like a hawk. Probably more so outside of Germany. There is a human element in auto assembly. Mistakes/errors are made in every factory on every continent.

This statement is a bit different than your previous saying "rusted parts".

OK, some cars exhibited surface rust on the seat frames. Bad? Yes, but it could happen anywhere. Other posts on the same thread showed it was thoroughly cleaned off so it seems the rust was nothing more than surface rust and likely due to the raw material not being treated and/or stored properly. Yes, it should have been caught, but was not. I bet its been addressed by now.

FYI, Lear manufactures seats for BMW in Germany, SA and USA. Same OEM, all 3 continents.

Depends how each plant treats them and thats the issue i was addressing.

I disagree...I dealth with a couple of dealers in the US a few years ago, and they specifically indicated these cars were made in SA vs a car made in Germany....and there was a different price on them.

Even their advertisements specifically highlighted the car was made in SA. If peeps didn't care, why would they go out of their way to make it known?

FYI a South African built BMW is by no way a poorly built car. South Africa is known for having some of the best Car manufacturing/assembly plants in the world. That is why BMW, Audi , Benz and more have their bread and butter built in SA. But a German Car built in Germany has even higher standards to uphold when your bread and butter is rolling out of headquarters.

MSRP of German vs SA builds were never different. If a dealer discounted it more its simply because they had tons of inventory of cars they wanted to sell. Check any wholesale resale guide and see if the values are different.
