are you referring to all the negotiated prices people are listing here? cause thats all they are, prices they negotiate with a dealer...

Well I got mine for $1000 over invoice and then got $1000 off for the Team USA thing, then put down $5,000 on my Costco Amex which gets me 1% back. So I ended up $50 under!

if you're in Southern California I just spoke to a fleet manager in Los Angeles that has lots of cars and is doing $500 over invoice on 3 Series. If you have USAA that puts you at $1,000 below. I don't know about posting this here so just send me a PM.

Hi Everyone! I'm a Newbie to the Forums, and a proud first-time BMW owner... Well, when it gets here this week (I hope). 2013 ALPINE WHITE 328i M-SPORT w/ Premium, Technology, Harman Kardon, etc.....

I got a similar deal as above here in Oklahoma. I've never paid over invoice for ANY car before (and I buy a new car every 3 years). However, this isn't just ANY car!!! RIGHT? So I was willing to pay a little more.

I ended up having to pay a Doc Fee ($199), but I was planning on paying up to $1000 over invoice, so the deal still worked out in my favor. In addition, I didn't have to pay anything for them trailering the car from another state. (Only 2 states within 500 miles had the car with the specs I wanted.) Also got the $1500 USAA discount on top of all that. WOOHOO! About that "Training Fee"... For some of you looking at other sites for "Invoice". Add the $180 Training Fee to that for what most dealers call "Invoice".

I've been following this forum for several months and I feel blessed to be among some very intellegent, well informed Bimmer owners! I learned a TON from this forum before I decided exactly what I wanted and the right questions to ask. You guys ROCK!!

My dealer has been pushing a 2012 328i in the exact color combo and option package I am looking for in the F30 style.

According to bmwconfig, MSRP is 43,645 and invoice is around 40,500. Dealer's first offer was $800 OVER invoice. I keep telling him this car needs to be discounted for me to consider it further, given the fact that it's already one year old compared to other 328s on the lot.

I think I could get a 2013 for $800 over invoice. Was thinking the 2012 should be somewhere in the $2-3,000 UNDER invoice. Am I way off base?

BTW - my numbers above all are before any cash incentives from BMW

Yeah, I think you're off base. $2K under invoice on a '12 before other incentives seems unlikely. Since the changes are minimal, they can probably find a buyer for that car just pricing it at invoice, or even above, when compared to '13s that may commonly be sold at $1K above invoice.

Doesn't make any sense to me. If I buy a 2012 for invoice (call it $40k) and another guy buy a '13 on the same day for $1,000 over ($41k), at the end of 3 years, the FMV of both cars will be more than $1k apart even if mileage is the same just for the fact that they are 1 model year different.

Don't see why anyone would pop for a '12 that was so similar in price to an equivalent '13...

The dealer paid close to the same price for each car. Sure he wants to move the '12, but doesn't have to take a bath on it. An extra $1000 off is all it might take any particular buyer, since the model years are so close in features. It's all related to elasticity of demand.

The value for the '12 is NOT tied to what it initially cost the dealer or how similar the features are. It's LAST YEAR'S MODEL. The car should definitely be discounted way more than that. As stated above, down the road, it will always be one year older than the new '13 you could have bought for the same price (or within a few hundred dollars) and worth substantially less.

Either walk away or get down to the nuts and bolts of negotiating.

Here's a tip - check the label in the driver's door jamb to see what the build month was. The older the car is, the longer it's been on the lot and the more floorplan the dealer has paid. The longer it sits, the more it becomes a negative asset and the more motivated they will be to sell it.

Just found the exact car I've been haggling over on autotrader. It's listed on there for $1,000 under invoice, or $1,800 less than the dealer said was his best price. If they are willing to advertise it at 1k under, I'm going to try for 3k under and maybe settle around 2

Give it your best shot; maybe they are extra motivated and you'll get a reasonable deal. Your instinct is right on, however in my experience dealers weren't willing to be reasonable on 2012 models.

When I was first looking for cars, I did the math on what my car would be worth for the range of years that I suspect I will keep the car. I ended up calculating that I would have to get a 2012 for at LEAST $3k less then an equivalent 2013 (and ideally at least $4k less) for it to be worth it to purchase the 2012.

As I had found several dealers willing to offer $1k over invoice (or less), in order for a 2012 to be worthwhile I would have had to get it for $2k-$3k under invoice. I found several 2012s that met my needs and made below-invoice offers. Not one dealer even bothered to make me a counteroffer.

I think what it comes down is that there are tons of suckers out there, and although that 2012 has now depreciated 15% below a 2013, there are plenty of folks who would be willing to take the 2012 for $500 to $1k less than a $2013 without any thought to the long-term value of his car. The dealers would simply rather wait for an uneducated buyer who is willing to buy the previous year's model for more than it is worth.

One guide to use for the 2012/2013 value would be the residual rate difference BMW would use say on a 24 month vs 36 month lease. That's what you need as a discount to avoid "eating" the depreciation before the car has even left the dealer lot.

I just got a 2013 335i at $4000 off the window sticker price. Then add 289 dealer fees.

i just got a 2013 335 that had a sticker of 53,995 for 48,375 (including USAA and loyalty) before the 2k for holiday and recent grad incentives are applied....so in total i will have paid 46,375 or it

This might be irrelevant as all posters here are US as I'm talking about an Australian deal, but today I essentially got MSRP, but they also included 3 years of free servicing -which is equivalent to a business servicing plan.

So it's not below, but have lots of added value to the deal.

I dont think youre going to see as much as a difference between the '12 and '13s as you normally would with 1 model year difference. The 12 was essentially only a 6-7 month model run, and I think you'll see that reflected in resale values. Also think about your warranty, both 12 and 13 model cars bought this year will have warranties until 2016. There will be a difference, but I don't think it will be significant.

I would be more worried that you can get a '13 for invoice. Not even 1 year of sales and BMW is already selling their hottest cars at invoice. That sounds more like GM, Ford, Chrysler, and that worries me when I think about resale. Where's the pricing going to be 2-3 yrs from now? Seems like invoice is the new MSRP, at least in the US that is.

Just order a mineral grey 335i M Sport manual w/ PDC, DHP, HK sound, Black Leatherette & Aluminum Hex interiors. Will have delivery/pickup here in Germany for a final price tag just little over $42K (tax free). MSRP in the USA came out to $50,070 as configured per BMWUSA website.
