Got rear ended today! - BMW 3-Series Forum (F30 / F32)

So I am coming to a light and the ass hat in front of me stops right when it goes yellow, I would have gone through it as there was tons of traffic because of construction.

Fine, we were going slow and I stop, no big deal. So 2 secs go by and slam, the guy in back of me rams me!

I am bullsh!t and get out of the car. Turns out the d-bag behind him had been texting or something and had slammed full tilt into him without stopping, sending him into me. I end up with two notches in my rear bumper from his front license plate screws. Guy in the middle get his car sandwhiched big time. His rear was totalled and front end much better.

Cop was there because of the construction, so no problems with fault etc.

I will need (and get!) a new bumper courtesy of someone else's insurance, but I am still pissed

Sorry to hear. I know exactly how you feel

After just a few days of ownership and less than 600 miles, I got a hit & run in a mall parking garage. The corner of my front bumper got scraped to shit. It's hardly noticeable to most people, but I know it's there. $350 to repair.

I've come to realize that this is the reality of parking/driving in a city like Miami. It sucks but no matter how much you try to avoid it, you have to expect that these things will happen and just deal with it.

Not to make light of your situation, but it reminded me of a recently heard joke.

After the accident, the other driver got out of his car and he happened to be a little person, or a dwarf.

He looked at our bumpers and said, 'I'm not happy, I am NOT happy.'

To which the other driver asked, 'then which one are you?'

Lucky that the guy who was texting was not right behind you. But still sad, hope this incident does not get reported to carfax by the insurance company since then you "might" find it tad bit harder to sell the car (especially private party) when the time comes. Each time I hear something like this, I get the feeling I should get a gap protection.

It's so annoying. I'm glad there was no damage to yourself.

During my early morning commute I somehow always attract a very plain woman behind me applying make-up. I keep checking her distance and therefore the make-up application process hoping against hope it will be speedy before she rear-ends me. I am delighted when it ends and I am followed by a prettier version of herself.

But, I am petrified when such a following woman is really not a pretty picture and it takes her ages to transform, thereby increasing the chances of unhealthy bonding. Even worse is when she removes her spectacles to apply the concrete to her face, lights a cigarette and is chatting on her mobile. I practically lose my breakfast.

I was rather anal and took pics of every thing and emailed them to my agent, so I am hopeful that if I do have an issue with a prospective buyer in the future, I can assure them it was causemetic only, which it looks like it is at this point.

I've had the rear bumper of my Golf GTI resprayed 4 times! I park so carefully and it still happened. None my fault and happened overnight outside my house and once in the car park at work. Nightmare to match the paint on a Red car. Cursed the perpetrators in every which way I could. Fatherless swines.

Damn man Im sorry! Hey now you can get the sportline version of the rear bumper IMO it looks so much better then the M sport. Dont Shoot

If there are just two notches then you might not require a whole new bumper. Minor damage can easily be repaired even on plastic bumpers.

OK, I am calmed down. It really does look like some one took a dowel and a hammer and indented the bumper.

And I will get a new bumper. Day job is pretty good for getting those types of things accomplished.

Update.

I will be getting a new bumper and I did not have to fight for itm(the appraiser who came out at fix said it coulb be fixed, but i talked him out of tha assessment on the spot). Plus no deductible etc. because it was clearly not my fault. Already received the checks. Wow, that was fast.

How much did the new bumper run? I got hit on the rear corner of mine and need to replace the whole thing. Shop is saying anywhere from $500 - $1500 depending on parking sensor damage.

James: Is black sapphire an easy color to match on this car? Also, is it true the paint from a body shop isn't as strong as the factory? I love the idea of a new bumper. Can you get it painted from the factory and shipped to the USA?
