Should I cancel my order and get a 640d?!

Ok, so when I signed my lease order it had a 7-8 week delivery time.

The delivery time is now 16 weeks ! The only plus is i will get the new nav unit

But,

Do i have grounds to cancel if I wanted to?

Why? Well, i dont think i do want to cancel, but then a mate sent me this:

New BMW 640d M Sport Coupe Automatic *IN STOCK IMMEDIATE DELIVERY*
20" M sport alloy wheels
+ M sport aerodynamic styling and suspension
+ Dakota leather upholstery
+ Satellite navigation with high res screen
+ Bluetooth
+ 3 years - 10,000 miles per annum
+ Silver, grey or black in stock
+ From only £399.99 + Vat per month (6x35)
+ Only 3 x cars available
Only £399.99 + Vat per month.

Alongside my bargain of the century for the 330d this is a bargain of a decade!!! but, it needs more miles and is at least a £100 more a month.

If you like the idea of a better finished, higher quality car and like the extra toys and exclusivity then fine, pay the extra £100 a month and go for it.

Its a lot of car for £100 a month more. Its nearly double the price of a 330d, list price

Depends what you want in a car really, do you need a car as big as a 6 series? Are you happy with 2 doors? The 330d in the real would will be virtually as quick (given the 6 series is heavier) and will probably handle better too.

If it was me in the same position I'd hang on for the 330d as I wouldnt want anything bigger than a 3 series (and I want 4 doors).......... but that deal is something to think about I guess.........

Sucks on the delivery time increase.

Do you want a 640D? I guess it depends if you really want to look like a gay property developer

Thanks for the comments guys.

And you know what, I am very happy with the 3er, always have been, always will be. Its just kinda the right car for me in terms of size, handling, performance and cost.

But, as has been said - this is a car worth twice as much

Also, its not helping that i have a crappy astra hire car

good point buddy, but i really dont want to spend any more cash - even if its just a £100 (the money pit is taking alot at the mo )

maybe if i drove one...that would swing it. Which is probably why i havent gone to test drive one

Oh, i have emailed this new lease company though - lets hope they dont have any left!

Having owned my F30 (335i) for a few weeks I am pleasantly surprised of how well it drives comfort wise. I would even say that it is better than the E60. But the 6er is a notch above that.

You can't go wrong with any of the two cars. But for me a 6er is a better car, but if you don't want to spend that extra money the F30 i still an awesome automobile for the money.

Garage List
Have to say that while the F30 is a really nice car to look at, the new 6 Series has real road presence and a 640d is going to have that silky big car feel with lots of 'get up & go' to boot. When I was in the showroom, they had gorgeous 'six' which was going for a similar great deal, but there's no way the thing would have fitted in my garage

It's a different matter if it's a 6er GC, but if u have a family then the 6er is quite impractical.
BMW have trouble shifting these cars hence the great deals to be had.

You can get similar deals on A8's, even S-classes, from time to time. The bigger and more expensive the piece of metal, the harder they have to subsidise them to get them on the roads.

I nearly bagged one of these 640d's a few months back on a similar rate. But I walked away, and I'm much happier to be getting into a 330d. Why ?
- better ride and steering feel;
- far more interior room especially vs exterior size;
- better visibility / parkability;
- less vulgar/likely to alienate friends who are struggling at the moment, especially when on school run / social trips;
- similar real world performance;
- similar refinement (road/wind noise in the 6 series is poor for the class of car).
I honestly can't think of one trip I've taken in the last 12 months where I'd rather be in a 640d than a 330d. And that being the case, it doesn't matter what the list price of the 2 cars is, right ?

If you were going to spec up your 330d with pro nav and other goodies that come as standard on the 640d, maybe the 640d would actually work out cheaper and then maybe you should consider it, but at £100 pcm more ? Definitely not.

good insight, surprised at the refinement comment though. I do seem stuck on the 330d too!

I have had the 640D M Sport, I could not get on with it, just 2 seats got on my nerves, sold it. The car never gave better than 38MPG and performance was not spectacular either, the 330D M Sport will be as quick and more room and economy, fit and finish not to far apart. IMO.

Did you go for the 640d in the end?

I saw the lease offers but they were only available to business customers not personal lease and went very quickly apparently.
