I'm preparing to swap out my stock 19" 401 wheels with a winter setup. With the ridiculous prices that BMW wants for a new winter tire package, i'm trying the 2nd hand route, more specifically from an E90. After searching high and low, I'm still unable to find a clear answer with regards to what will and will not fit on my car.. so i'm asking for anyones insight.

My car is a 2012 335i (non xdrive)
It's canadian so it doesn't have the TPMS, however, it has the FTM.

Does anyone know if a 17"+ set up from an E90 will simply bolt on (with no FTM issues). Or will I need adapters and sensors, making the operation a bit more painful.

With no tpms it should just be an issue of recalibrating the abs sensors (which measure the wheel speeds to sense the flat tire) which can be done in the iDrive.

But I see another issue here. Wheels from the e90 have different offsets then the f30 ones.

As ChiefBroady pointed out above, the offsets will not be the same if you try to use E90 wheels, nor will the tire sizes match.

You will need either 225/50R17 or 225/45R18 winter tires for your 335i, but if you have M Sport brakes, you would need a 18" set-up.

My suggestion would be to look @ Tirerack for a winter set of wheels/tires.
BMW Canada recommends the Pirelli Sottozero II snow tires for the F30-335i. Tirerack sells these tires. You might also wish to pay attention to the country of origin for the wheels offered by Tirerack; many of them are made in China.

As I've said in numerous threads. I have 235/35R19 Nokian Hakka R on my 403M's. I have used 19" winter tyres for years and I live in Sweden so we get real winters up here.

Is it the best option? No.
Does it work? Yes.

I have yet to encounter any real issues with this setup (19" winters in general). My dad runs it on his Lexus IS-F too (same tire and size).

You mean just have one set of wheels, but two sets of tires, summer and winter.

I rather have two sets of wheels, probably cheaper in the long run, and I don't think it's good for the tires to be put on and off wheels several times.

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet but I found this on a X3 forum........ Basically for those with mild winter temperatures (like it is here in Vancouver 95% of the time from November to February when the average temperature during the day is about 8 degrees celcius), most winter tires are terrible at braking and handling in warmer temperatures and the only tire (the Pirelli) that performs decently in the milder temperatures rated very poor for ice conditions. I had Pirelli winter tires on my previous 2006 330i and can concur that in places with a mild winter that rarely gets below freezing and rarely snows, snow tires are just too much of a sacrifice in noise, comfort, and handling for 95% of our winter.

For those in warmer climates (like Vancouver) that rarely snow I suggest instead of a snow tire an aggressive all season tire or a set of snow tires mounted on an extra set of wheels that you can take on and off yourself since you will only really need the snow tires on for an average of 2 or 3 days a year. Winter tires kept on for the winter make sense for most of Canada but in Vancouver you will just be driving unnecessarily around with soft, gooey, noisy tires for 95% of the winter.

have you driven the 19" staggered set on snow at all? If so were there any issues with 19" wheels? I'm debating if I need to keep an 18" wheel set for Chicago winters but would prefer to just keep the 19" wheels on all year round.

i have just order a set of winter rims and tires, brand new. cost me $1800 CAD.
i dont think you can fit in a 17' rims. i went with the 18'.

I test fit my E92 set up and they do fit on my 335 with standard brakes. 17x8 et34 square. I need to go up a size for the rubber however.

Is there a technical reason why you need to bump up the tire size? I'm currently looking at style 270 m3 wheels with 235/40/18 square as opposed to 225/45/18, anyone foresee any problems with using them on an f30?

I had a winter set for my '09 335i and Tire Rack confirmed I could use them for my '13 F30 335i. They could have told me "no" and I would have bought another set and sold the old one, but they said it would work.
