Tyre size on 19' wheels?
I've ordered my 330d M Sport with the 19" M Star-spoke wheels (403M). Delivery is w/c 17th Dec and I'd like to put winter tyres on it as soon as it shows up.
I've driven BMs for years and, unless you have LSD (like I did on my E46 M3), they're just pants on snow and ice. I'm not sure how the 19" tyre sizes compare to the 18" standard. Does anyone know? Thanks Dave |

I'm thinking same but would rather buy a set of 18" rims equipped with winters.
But M403 have : 225/40 R19 Front 255/35 R19 Rear Rims are 8J front and 8.5J on rear, just in case as 255 winters aren't a good choice.

Thanks for the quick response. I've never tried winter tyres before - are you saying I should try to go narrower than 255 at the rear? I'm not that genned up on wheel & true sizes - would 245s fit on the rear rims?

Yes, normally advisable go for thinner tyres as they allow better grip in snowy conditions.
I would consider buying a new set of rims. The money you save on the first set will partly pay for the rims. 19"s are quite a bit more pricey than 18"s. My dealer is going to let me know what the BMW winter tyre deal is. Probably have to sit down when hearing the price, lol. Not sure if you know about BMW's wheel storage service?

OK thanks - sounds like a good call. I had been thinking I might have to buy dedicated rims. I've ordered my car with the M Sport brakes, so minimum rim size is 18". Not sure I dare ask BMW about their winter wheel & type packages ... :-)
I did hear they have a storage service - could be useful. Dave |

How's this for a sit down... web site quotes £1,700 for a set of 17" V Spoke 395s' wearing Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D's (225/50), or £2,060 for a set of Pirelli W240 Sottozero 225/45's on 18" Star Spoke 396's.
There's £30 on top for storage but I'd hope the whole deal is negotiable. Lexus charged less than that for a winter set on my other half's RX and those were 19" rims.

I have 235/35R19 winter tyres on my 403's.
I have been running the same dimensions for years here in Sweden without any problems. If you want to buy OEM wheels I have used this site before. Usually a lot cheaper than BMW and they are OEM wheels. http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw...s/3_series_f30 |

Anyone had experience of 19" run flat winter tyres? My current E90 runs 17" winter run flats which have been great but am thinking of an F30 with 19s

These are the best winter tyres on the market (non studed), made for the Nordic winter. If you want tyres made for the European winter (still very good winter tyres, not all year) Nokian have the WR D3 or you can get the Continental ContiWinterContact TS 830. All of the tyres above are available in 235/35R19. And are test winners in their category. The last to are recommended for use in southern Sweden, so still a decent winter tyre. |
