I think the HiFi is better unless you're going all out with a digital DA2 gateway system, but who knows when it will support the F30?

High q can be thought of as having a higher aspect ratio and lower q can be thought of as having a lower aspect ratio, like a tire.

Thanks for the awesome thread...
I am going to take my amp from e90 and put it in my f30 335. Is there a harness for the HK in F30 to add a trunk amp/sub?

What's the standard system in the 335i?
I would love to upgrade, but judging from the thread, doesn't sound like it's possible?

There are three levels of audio system, two of which come to the US. In the US, there is the HiFi system, and there is the Premium Sound system, which carries the "harman/kardon" brand.
We are working on upgrade packages for both. The standard US-spec system is the HiFi system, which has front, rear, underseat woofers, and a center, and an amp. We are looking at upgrading that amp and the front and underseat speakers, and jettisoning the useless center channel. The amplifier mounts, speaker adapter mounts, and woofer adapter mounts are all off to prototyping! The trunk subwoofer is ready to go to tooling. The wiring is already validated. We know what speakers we will use - we're really close! I'm hoping we have HiFi upgrade Level One and Level Two packages by Thanksgiving and the subwoofer ready by Xmas.

My answer to that question is, yes:
1) Turn off the Logic 7 processing and unplug the center channel speaker. To test this out, take a later Tom Clancy hardback or a Harry Potter hardback, fold a thick towel, sit the towel on the center speaker and sit the book on it. Now listen for a while. Sounds better. 2) We are introducing a complete plug-and-play subwoofer package by Christmas for the h/k system. Probably going to start at $995 for the completely-stock-looking, no-modification required, plug-and-play system. We are behind my original schedule, but I like how it looks. Imagine this in matching upholstery and with a matching grille: ![]() ![]() ![]()

HK doesn't cost $875. It costs $875 more than the cost already sunk into the 7-channel, 12-speaker (or whatever) HiFi system, which is already pretty significant. Bit if you're asking if you can start with HiFi and spend $875 and get better performance than HK, my answer is no - our upgrades to HiFi upgrade the front tweeters, the front mids, the underseat woofers, add new passive crossovers, and upgrade the amplifier, and that will add up to more than $875. Our goal is not to do better, cheaper, and neither is BMW's - it's to do better, and offer rational value.

Hi,
Thanks for all these informations. These will be be very usefull for me. Do you know the max mounting depth for the mid-range speakers of the front doors (F30)? I have the stereo base audio (Europe) and I find the audio very uggly. I want to upgrade them with 2 Focal 100 CA1 so... Thanks a lot. |
