used tires for track use - BMW 3-Series Forum (F30 / F32)

i have the 17" base line wheels with pirelli run flats.....looking to track the car and wanted to get some used tires.

thinking of going the same size with higher speed rating.
anyone have any recs on which tires to use? ie. stiffer sidewall / etc.

I know we discussed this in PM...You should do your first few track days on the stock tires.

I see you're in Socal, plan on hitting up SOW?

It wouldn't hurt to get something with a bit lower profile; this will effectively change your gearing and increase responsiveness.

Regarding type of tires, are you looking for something pretty aggressive, when it comes to street standards? Swapping out the OEM run-flats wouldn't be a bad idea, so long as you don't get something too sticky to the point that tire grip is a band-aid for poor driving habits.
