Ordering First BMW Ever need help :)

Hey guys I am planning on ordering my first ever car, a 2013 BMW 335i. Now i want to put the options i would like on the car and i know its probably going to be built and then delivered to dealer because of specifications i want. I have some questions. when i do go to the dealer and order the car can I negotiate the price of the car before it is built because i don't want to get ripped off just because its going to be built ? Secondly how long does it take for the car to be built and delivered?

Only one suggestion. Take the HUD! It is awesome.

Of course you negotiate the hell out of them! but since you have not owned a Bimmer before you dont have the prestige badge that lets you go down more in price.

Edmunds has a great guide on how to negotiate a fair price.

Tips: Don't dress extravagant ie: expensive watch, shoes, etc.. it shows you have money and they charge more.

Get the HUD Display its simply amazing!!

Good Luck, Please post when you order )

The wait is going to vary depending on many factors. You'll want to read some threads in the ordering section of the forum to get an idea.

You want to make sure your dealer has a production number for your order. Placing an order with the dealer doesn't get you much of anything without a production number.

I also recommend confirming you have a Munich production number. South Africa builds seem to take longer.

I placed my order (with production number) on 6/7. Today my status updated to indicate my car is headed to port in Bremerhaven to make the trip to NJ. I figure I still have another 4ish weeks to go.

Hope that helps.

When you go to the dealer, I recommend dealing with the fleet manager. Those folks are usually more up front than the floor sales folks. The other way to approach these negotiations is to send emails to every BMW dealership within a xxx mile radius (being determined by how far you are willing to travel to pick it up) specifying what you want and asking for an offer. When you find the two lowest offers, play those against each other until one drops out. If any dealer refuses to make an offer in writing, pass on them. What you want is to find somebody who puts the cards on the table and offers an honest deal.

Also please remember that you can order from anywhere in the USA. The dealership from which you purchase your car can always arrange a courtesy delivery with a dealership in your area. The only possible down side is if the local dealership gets pissy and says they won't give you a loaner car because you didn't buy from them. I wouldn't ask that in advance though unless that is a deal breaker for you.

Expect it to take 6-10 weeks from the time of order to delivery. The factory closes in August so your car would not be built until September. Patience is the name of the game...

Good luck and enjoy!

I live in LA and I ordered mine on 3/29/2012. And still waiting...

335i will take a bit long, but it depends on your CA at the dealership

Garage List
I'd recommend the following:

-- Build your car on bmwconfig.com. It will give you the MSRP and invoice pricing for your exact configuration.

-- Determine how much you're willing to pay over the INVOICE price. Folks around the boards seem to be getting deals ranging from 500 - 1000 over invoice.

-- Remember to add applicable fees, such as MACO (advertising fee), training fee, license and registration fees, and any applicable dealer/documentation fees. If you're unfamiliar with these fees, search here for more details

-- Create a full price sheet detailing your exact build and invoice price, fees, and how much you're willing to pay over that (dealer profit) and submit it to several dealers. You can either do this via e-mail (dealer's internet manager) or in person. There are advantages/disadvantages to both.

-- Ask the dealer to verify that they have a production allocation to give you for the car you order. Your deal may not be much good if they accept your price but don't have an actual allocation spot for BMW to build it. For example, 335 production allocations seemed to be tight for awhile.

Order the car and begin the painful waiting process. As others have mentioned, it'll take between 6 - 8 weeks.

Enjoy!
