It's looking like this isn't a US problem. I ordered my 328i on April 13 and it went into production already and should be done May 2nd.

I'm still guessing that it isn't anybody's problem, other than some sort of mis-communication.

My dealer has been in touch today with some bad news........... My estimated delivery date has now moved to the end August early September. I've cancelled my order now & going to wait for the M Sport to come out later in the year What is frustrating is that there is only a 6-8 week lead time for the diesels. I could have ordered a 320D today and taken delivery of it in early-mid June.

Great - now it all adds up! I just asked BMW UK if there was an N20 delay again, but this time added that my dealer says there is and their previous reply said no, so I was confused as to who to trust. I added I trust my dealer.
Helpfully, they replied with clarity so I'm much happier I know I'm not being pissed about now.
"After looking in to this matter further with our production planning department, we can now confirm that there is a slight production delay for cars equipped with the N20 engine. This was recently communicated to our dealer network and will result in an approximate 6 to 8 week delay in production.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

July 16th it is, although I'm away then, so 18th it is! Better late than never I suppose!

Did you all have have to pre-order? I just called the dealership and inquired about the availability two weeks ago and the guy just asked me which colour/line I wanted and he actually had a Imperial Blue with Saddle Brown leather + Premium package in their inventory. I was able to take delivery the car last week without any sort of pre-ordering.

Funny part is, I actually spoke to someone there back in February and they kept trying to get me to drop a deposit to pre-order the car to have delivery by late April or early May. I thought I'd wait it out since I didn't want to pay sticker price by dropping a deposit so soon. I ended up getting the car earlier than they stated by pre-ordering and I also got a discount.

Firstly, the good news! My 328i will be here from June 8th as you can see from my current signature, so I'm happy with that! The dealership has been great.

Now the bad news:
Emailed my current lease company to ask if I could keep my 330d till then (contract expires 28th May) and they have just replied saying, "No." Bastards. I'm leasing through BMW themselves for my 328i you see.
So I've now gotta find some wheels for 2 weeks! Ugh. I think I will get onto Enterprise but I don't know what they have I can pick from yet. A small 4x4 might be fun!
Sad times.

Anything new about the N20, is it still shortage? Is it possible to have the car in late july or early august if I order M-sport this month?

Don't know any more about the N20 shortage but I assume it is ongoing as demand is still very high. You won't get an M Sport this side of August, you're looking at September/October deliveries at the earliest.

My dealer tells me that their allocations are not affected by the shortage and that my car will not be delayed.
My VIN just became availalbe, so i guess it will be in production soon.

you bmw dealer should be able to help out with bmwfs in giving you a lease extension, since you have a new bmw on order. you pay an extra month i guess, but it's not too bad

I lease my 330d through another company as they beat BMW significantly on price at the time. My 328i is leased through BMW themselves this time though as the price difference was negligible and I'd rather go through BMW as they do not need any authorisation to carry out work - they can just get on with it.
So it's not really their problem and I don't want to devalue one of their cars cos there will be around a 1000 miles put on it in 2 weeks. So I'm going through Enterprise and it looks like I'm gonna get a Mondeo, Passat, Insignia or Avensis. I would prefer the Passat out of that pick and the Avensis the least!! In fact, I might even refuse the Avensis I have such vendetta against it!!!
I'm gonna have something that qualifies as a car for those rental prices!!

Right, another update!
It's been delayed again! :/
It'll hit the dealership on 14th June, and they said I can have it on the 15th but I'm in America then so I won't be able to get it until the 18th June.
I struggle to sleep on planes too so I'm gonna have to work the jet lag out and get some bloody sleep. Floored me for days last time!!

Now my 330d has sadly gone, I am getting a rental car tomorrow (Wed 30th May) which will be something like an Insignia or Mondeo so not too bad. They said a Toyota Avensis was a possibility but said I'd rather have a push bike than an Avensis so they're going to make sure it isn't one of those! The Avensis is a hateful thing.

So, I'm not too disappointed but it would've been nice to have it on the forwarded delayed time of 8th June. Oh well, I'd rather wait and it be awesome than rushed! Gives the dealership more time that way too cos they get lots of Lex Autolease 320ed's through so they will take some prepping.

Either way, looks like the N20 shortage did significantly effect the lead time (almost a month later) and I ordered early March. Not sure if there is still a shortage or not though.

I miss my 330d though - sad times! Whatever I get as a rental will feel so weak in comparison! I suppose that will make me appreciate my 328i more though!
