Not sure if it is a state by state thing, but Bimmian make customized Euro plates for people to put on the front of their cars, so I imagine there's a market for it and would assume that means it is condoned....somewhere.....

In Ontario, no chance. We have to put a plate front and back. Lame.

They are ordering a whole new bumper for me, will paint it and install, all on BMW's dime. I'm just waiting now until the parts come in and they paint it.

Front license plates are stupid. I wish Ohio didn't require them.

I also live in Ohio. I haven't driven with a front-license plate for about 10 years. Never gotten a ticket or been pulled over for it. Even after getting a speeding ticket, the cop never mentioned the front plate. It's a risk, but so far I've gotten away with it. (knock on wood)

It must be dependent on your locale. I was stopped on 5 separate occasions in Gahanna for not having the front license plate. I kept ignoring the "warnings", but when the same cop stopped me twice, there was really no way out of it. They're pretty vigilant down here.

Yeah, it's amazing how the dickish-ness varies so much from town to town. I also had window tint for 5 years + that was too dark. I got away with it for 5 years and then got pulled over three times for it within the space of two months. WTF. First two were warnings, but the third was a ticket so I took off the tint. So bizarre nothing for 5 years and then I got nailed.

Same here. Had dark tint on my VW GLI....no issues in Columbus. Had the dark tint on the 335xi for the whole time in Columbus...no issues. Moved to Gahanna....busted time after time in a span of two weeks. Apparently we don't have a lack of police here...will keep that in mind next time they whine about funding.

The front licens plate is better for police LIDAR to get a reading... Leave mine off even though it is required in my state.

IMO a re-painted bumper will never hold up like a factory painted one. Put a 3M shield on it or you will soon have more than 2 blemishes on it from bugs and stones.

when I placed my order I informed my salesman then do not put the front plate bracket on and my he even indicated it on the vehicle order form. So if mine somehow gets put on the car I will raise Hell and they will be replacing the front bumper and not just adding some putty and touching up the paint.

It's not safety. As was mentioned, it's a target for the newer laser guns for speeding. With cars made more out of composite materials now, the lasers need more of a pure metal to reflect off of. The front plates serve that purpose. And the red light cameras being able to better ID a car too.

I didn't let the dealer drill my bumper for the plate. I'm just running with the back plate.
