Technically the car was introduced in October 2011, and certain they finalized the original hardware long before.

C'est la vie. This is technology. Buy any "hot off the shelf" technology product, and you're lucky to make it a few months without it being yesterday's news.

As far as the timing goes, it's EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get all of the stars to align timing-wise for the release of a new automobile, especially when you're talking technology. I think everyone would have been more upset if they would have delayed the F30 release just for one minor update of the navigation system hardware/software. We'll see it in the LCI for the F30/F31 and probably in the release of the F32. (And by the time that happens, someone else will have released something better/cooler LOL)

609 is it the order number/code or idrive fireware version?
Just now i checked my order (the pdf my CA had sent) which i booked April end, it says navigation system (609)

And yes, it does look more appealing, but I do not see much things that are not available on the MY2012 to be honest. It's just a bunch of better looking colors, that's basically all from what I can see in the screenies

I would look forward to the weather function and perhaps the radar map overlay. Comes in real handy when driving on vacation and wondering weather or not you'll run into adverse weather along your route or at your destination. On our last trip, I used my cell phone for weather radar.

It seems quite bizzarre that the 3 series Hybrid and Touring will get the new Nav but not the saloon. That link specifically mentions that touring will get the updated Nav.

that F31 sure packs a lot of technology options... almost at par with the F10!

And yet the original press release doesn't mention any F3X except the hybrid.

I think all 609 professional navigations from July onward may have the new version. Time will tell...

Yesterday in the evening I have called the BMW customer hotline in Munich because of this information.
They told me that the saloon will also get the new navigation system from July onwards.

I want to order my 328i MSport on Friday, so that was important for me.

Hope they are right!! Otherwise i would be pissed to buy so much $$ ( or euros in my case) for a navi that is already "old" again.

hmmm, i ordered my 328i 4 weeks ago, and still have 8 weeks to wait (July Delivery)... so i guess I miss out on the new system by 1 month

Having said that, i fully expect my TomTom 2050 will still be my nav device of choice - i suspect the iDrive nav wont be even close in terms of features and usability.

Can you dictate texts and emails from the MY2012 system using voice recognition, like it seems you can on the new system?
