Mmmmm TRP Operator for work.... Nice. I sure love mine. I have a Storm lake barrel in mine, and shoot it suppressed. Man, I love that thing.

When the Taurus 1911s came out, they were a great deal. I had one of the first ones that were in the country, and for less than $500 out the door, it was worth it. Now they seem to have gone up, and Taurus has cheaped out on their small parts, it's definitely not worth it.
Plus, the fact that it goes back through Taurus Miami to Brazil is kind of a big deal to me. Think of the lead time.

Mine have been flawless, but very weak on the finish, and very very poor checkering. Having said that, the early one is nicer than the later one.

Not being American, I didn't know, but I am surprised you can have suppressed firearms? I had just imagined that given there is little legal purpose they would have outlawed it?

That being said, I guess it wouldn't stop anyone who originally intended to use for an illegal purpose so maybe that's why they didn't bother. Interesting though - I think it would be neat to shoot suppressed for a couple rounds, but the novelty would probably wear off quickly I'd imagine.

Learning new things in this thread - very interesting. But also makes me a little more nervous about in living in the States should the opportunity arise. Just something about everyone running around with guns...especially since Texas appears to be the only state with job opportunities for the career path.

US population is about 300 million. There are about 250 million guns in the US. About 50% of households have a gun. This percentage of course varies by region (higher in Texas, duh). Just FYI.

Suppressors are legal. Heavily regulated, but legal.
If you can lawfully own a gun, you can lawfully own a can. (unless state law prohibits it)

It's all about noise control. Not needing ear protection when shooting. My friends and I often have suppressed only shoots.
You see a some states now allowing hunting with suppressors. Why scare off the rare breeding red-chested humming bee with a gunshot when you're after a hog?

Being that the speed limit here in FL is 70 mph, there is little legal purpose of cars being able to go any faster. I sure am glad that they didn't limit my car to 70 though.

1) I don't know the exact details regarding the processes in every state, but in Indiana, you have to apply for a License to Carry a Handgun to have the privilege of "running around with a gun," as you put it.

This requires a thorough background check. The application is submitted to the Indiana State Police Department.

In my city, we are required to meet with the Police Chief for an interview as a part of the process (despite the fact that Indiana is a "shall issue" state).

2) What's wrong with suppressed firearms? Have you ever been around an actual gunshot/fired a gun? If not, let me assure you, it is LOUD.

Using suppressors allow you to shoot outdoors (indoors even in some instances) without hearing protection! What can be better than utilizing equipment that is BETTER for your hearing? Shooting suppressed greatly enhances the experience for me.

If you will, look up the statistics regarding how many "suppressed" weapons are used in a crime.

People watch too much T.V.

To obtain a suppressor, you can't just stroll into your local Target store and pick one up. You have to pay a $200 tax stamp to the good ol' government, submit a bunch of paperwork via the ATF, and then endure a long (several month) waiting period.

You are overreacting so much, it's humorous. Just remember, in the same way that M3 owners are a small subset of the population, so are gun owners like the ones in this thread. Actually, the gun owners in this thread would best be described as enthusiasts, much like their M3 brethren.

Most of the population does not own a gun, just like most of the population does not drive an M3. And in both scenarios, it's probably just as well.

LOL - seems like I inadvertantly stirred up some emotions...

Not my intent to in any way cause offence, was really a general comment / perception. Perhaps I do watch too much TV. That being said, I've only visited Florida and Texas and LA for any extended period of time.

Of that, it seemed like 95% of the population in Texas was carrying...heck, I was half convinced the bums on the street were carrying (and literally, maybe they were - no idea...if not, they were surprisingly aggressive for people that must have known they were surrounded by everyone else who was indeed carrying ).

Diesel - not sure how you've come to conclusion that most Americans don't own a gun, while foodle puts the stats at about 250M guns for 300M population. Yes, I don't know if that stat is correct, and realize that most gun owners own several guns, not just one. Perception wise though, I lean to Foodle's side. In any case, you hear about a lot more armed robberies or break-ins coming from south of the border and its a little intimidating. Frankly, if I lived anywhere in the States, I'd almost feel obligated to get a gun, just for defense. That being said, I love guns...I just don't like the fact that I feel I might one day need one. Again, perhaps an overreaction...you guys live there, I don't.

Ybbiz - I love guns, everytime I cross the border I try to make an opportunity to get out to a range and rent. Yes, they are loud, you want hearing protection...ok, fair point, I can see how suppressed may be an advantage. I hadn't really considered it from that POV, as to me whenever I shoot, I just automatically assume I'll be wearing ear protection.
I don't have a gun, but would really like to get a centerfire rifle - the one I really want is a Remington Milspec 5R chambered for .308. Heard many good things about it, apparently just a little more twist in the rifling has led to a little increase in the accuracy as I recall. But then about 6 months ago, I've been reading of deterioration in the quality assurance process at Remington which is making me re-think.

If I get a gun, it will be a rifle and it will be for precision only. But nothing otherwordly expensive...the Milspec is towards top of the range already for me.

I have no idea what the real numbers are, but most of the people I know do not own any guns. I own 15 (I think I'll crack open the safe when I get home) so those of us who buy/collect guns definitely skew the data.

Speaking for myself, I did not buy any guns because I felt threatened, or like I need to protect myself. I just them for target shooting and because they really are pieces of art. If you own guns and you like shooting then you want to get better at it, this leads to range time and a growing interest in additional guns. Then you start to think 'I would feel really stupid if someone broke into my house and I couldn't do anything about it because my guns are in the safe in the garage' thats why you hear us talk about guns by the bed, and then you get into the concealed carry thing (which I have interest in, but living in the peoples republic of california it is difficult).

None of this stems from feeling unsafe in general (not to discount the needs of those who live and work in harms way, just for me), but your mind does build scenarios and you think 'why not, I would like to be able to do something if the sh*t hit the fan' (or lets say you were on a road trip and you broke down in the middle of nowhere etc etc), and it is a right/privilege (hotly debated) that we have in this country, so why not.

Awesome, awesome gun. I'd love to own a Professional. Congrats on the twin boys, I just had my first (girl) 3 weeks ago.
No time to shoot anymore...

I picked up my two new toys today....and accidentally brought a ruger 10/22 rifle home too, I was thinking about the new td (take down) but they just aren't around, so I got one with a wood stock, it should be a fun little gun to play with and get others into shooting with me.

As of right now I have a Sig P229 (same pistol I carried in the service and possibly the best 9mm ever made), Kahr CM9 (awesome for CC), Rock River Arms AR-15 fully loaded, and Mossberg 500. I'll try to post some pics later.

Next up is a .308 with some decent glass so I can reach 1,000 yards plus. Distance shooting is fun and I miss it since I've been out of the Navy.

Let me know what rifle you wind up settling on - I'd like to know. As mentioned above, I'm looking at the remington milspec 5r in .308, but like to hear what options for distance you are looking at!

Thanks... it was my dream to own a gun from the top 1911 semi-custom manufacturers. I actually went a little bit further when I sent my TRS to John Harrison for a full custom job.
