That's what one of the dealers near me said, but can't tell if that's true since every other dealer in my area says it shouldn't be a problem ordering a 2012 335i. Who should I believe?

I've been doing research, and if WWL is the only shipping company that BMW uses to get the south african cars up to Bremerhaven, my car likely will not arrive to the west coast till Mid July(5 month wait!), and thats just an estimate (could possibly be august). Anybody who is in production right now at the SA plant might want to seriously considering waiting for M-sport. That is unless, I am wrong with my hypothesis that BMW only uses WWL to ship the cars to Bremerhaven. I've heard that they can ship direct from South Africa, but have yet to get any confirmation on this.
Could you post your timeline from order date so that we can see if its the norm for a south africa build?

I'm hoping to have it sometime early/mid June.. Who knows though, my CA originally quoted me 6-8 weeks. I think next time i'll take my business elsewhere..
This is my order time-line.

Hi Ric. Just have some questions.

Do you know why is it taking sooo long to build the 335i compare to the 328i??
I have ordered my car last mid March, and it didn't even start the production!!

Second, how do you know where your car is getting build?? My CA told me that mine is getting built from Germany, but I see a lot of people getting their cars built from SA(which I dont prefer...).

Thanks!!

I ordered my 335i March 29 and production ended April 23rd. Maybe your dealer didn't have one allocated to them or waited to order the car.

I ordered my car earlier than you. Maybe it has to do where it is getting build... Is your car getting build in SA?? It looks the cars getting build from SA are way faster...

You can check you VIN# to verify if what your CA is telling you is true. The 10th character says the plant of Manufacture

A,F, G, K = Munich

Thanks for the info Ric.
When will the vin number be available? I guess after the car is built?
And I assume you will get your car soon?

Here is my timeline - ordered 3/25 started production 4/26 estimate finished production in South Africa 5/11 and the dealer is telling me it should arrive in Houston on or around 5/18 - 5/25. Seems fast compared to the timelines but we are a big shipping port here in Houston for cars.

The long wait was to get a production start date while BMW upgraded the South Africa plant and added a third shift. The dealer said production is ramped up and cars will be flowing in. I sure hope so!

I don't know how to track the history of the timeline but from what I remember:

January 15 = Order placed
February 10 = Order Finalized
February 18-29 = Production
March 2 = Delivery in Munich

The key to score a ZERO down LOW monthly lease and when you bored with the car, people will line up to do a lease assumption so you can get out and get a new car.

I have 10 people line up to take over the M3 lease... I am sure I would have taker with the F30 when I am bored with it as my monthly lease payment is $423 a month. Zero out of pocket.

I called BMW and my CA - they said it's a plant delay not sure why... speculation that a parts supplier can't make delivery -- parts shortage. And production started April 26 not 23 on mine.
