Trunk space

When I ordered my f30 I didnt get the split-fold rear seats, after all the trunk space is listed as 17.0 cu, is that too optimistic? That is larger that a Camry. Dont remember where but I think I once read that the 17 cu is based on European measures and the American equivalent is around 12.4. Have you guys found the trunk too big, small or right size?

You can get a good idea of how large the trunk is via this thread http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678467. In the video there is a shot of a full trunk at 5:18. Hopefully, that gives you an answer you're looking for.

Regarding the non-fold down seats, I learned that the hard way on my first e90. It seems like little thing but is a very important function, especially when you have objects that are just a little too big for the trunk space as it is.

I would have been more interested in knowing how many suitcases would fit.

+1 A much better judgement would be made....I may have to just do that myself on my own time and come back with the result.

I was pretty disappointed at first when I saw the split fold-down rear seats were an option that costs almost $500. I mean, c'mon, any Mazda or Toyota has this standard. Seems like nickle and dime-ing (many nickels) to me.

Then someone mentioned to me that the reason for the added cost was that the car is designed such that the suspension is stiffened with some crossed beams behind the rear seats, and to be able to open up that space and maintain the stiffness they need to add some more stuff somewhere else. Any truth to that?

Still kinda lame that it is a $500 option.

I agree with the nickel-and-dime-ing. It just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I couldn't believe I had to pay for "Front Passenger Airbag Deactivation". Seriously? BMW charges for that? C'mon, it comes standard on virtually every other car I know of.

At least you guys in the US get the folding seats as a stand alone option. In Canada, if you want the folding seats, you must order premium package which cost $3500. The package includes GPS, alarm, comfort access, auto dimming exterior mirrors, park distance control and folding seats...

Give BMW a break. They may charge $500 for folding rear seats.

But, dont forget... we get free ASS (auto start stop) included with the price. Always a happy ending!
