You don't know the poster, so you don't know their monthly income. To be able to save up 25k euros like that is a challenge to most people, this means his monthly income must be decent enough to use the 25k euros for a down payment and have a nice reasonable monthly payment after.

If anything this person is quite smart about this and likely able to afford an M car.

Actually no, you're wrong. He said he makes 42k euros a year....

I've seen M3's in Germany sell for almost 100k euros. I know he's not from Germany, but the price is likely similar in most nearby countries...

finance gurus ITT

He makes 42K euros(pre-tax), the cost of a M3 in Germany is 69,000 (base, no options, pre-tax) euros. Even with his 25K that he is going to blow away on a downpayment for his car, he will have a minimum 44K euros in debt that he will be paying off. If you think the car is "affordable" in his circumstance, then you have your priorities wrong as well.

+1 and then people wonder why personal debt levels are so high.

I don't know where you are getting 100k for a used M3. There are a lot for sale in the Op's price range.
Edit: Just re-read the OT, and realized he said "new". Maybe he means new to him?? IDK
However, I think that this would be a bad decision on the OP's part.

This guy gets it.

The last time I was in Germany I was at the dealer where I got mine from and there was a nice one, nearly loaded, on the floor. The sticker price was 92k euros...

A used one, sure... It would be pretty used though, but that's fine. Either way, it's not my money or my life, so I don't care. You shouldn't be living with your parents though, that's pretty bad... I'd rather drive a beater and live on my own than drive a nice car and still have to go home to mom and dad.

didn't realize they were priced so ridiculously there. my bad.

I still stand by my earlier statement of don't bother to get a 335i in place of an M3 because it isn't the car you want. If you wanted a 335i in the first place, then by all means, it is a better choice for you with your wants. Don't buy a car you don't want. Ever. If you can't afford the one you do want, wait longer, then get it. And make due with what you have now.

heh, lot of response to question....
I have said that I'm going for an used M, price up to max 50k euros
so to clear that up, I'm after something like this

http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat...00&tabNumber=1

or

http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat...00&tabNumber=1

and if I find something like this for that price soon enough, Ill probably buy it,
and if not, think gonna wait for the 2013 coupe 335i, save up more money, and buy new car whatever the price will be...
thats definitly the smartest thing I could do

with my 3500k euros per month, I could do 600-700 euro per month for car I always wanted to drive, thats for sure...
..As I'm 6 months per year away from home, working on a merchant vessel, that other 6 months need to spend driving my own bmw with smile on my face heh

In my opinion, you can't even afford a 328i.

Your original post said new, not used.

You're also not including taxes, VAT, or anything else you need to pay for (regisration fees or whatever).

You also still live with your parents, when you aren't on a ship that is.

your last point doesn't really count as much

people in Europe tend to live at home up to and into their 30s sometimes, it's considered normal.

we are privileged here in NA that we have housing for anyone who wants a house whenever they are ready to get out of the house.

Just think how much money all of us would have saved had we never moved out until married!

I lived in Germany for quite a while and can say that isn't quite true... Most of the Germans I knew and spent time with in their mid-twenties were out of mom and dad's place.

Not saying it doesn't happen, but I think this guys priorities are all wrong. Just my 2 cents.

fair enough.

Besides, living at home will make it harder to get laid with all the girls he'd be bringing home with an M car

Op, if you want the m3 get it. There is nothing we can say to stop it if you do. But my suggestion is to look at a 1m. Also what country are you from, that would help us a lot. (I'm on the iPhone and your account doesn't show anything for location). To the other people on here, depending on which country you live in in Europe 44k/y can either be considered poverty or rich.

don't know why is that a big deal about living place,

yes, I'm on same adress as my parents, but...I do not live in the same house, I have so called, garden house (another small house in backyard of my prime house haha), I have my own living room, bedroomx2, kitchen, bathroom and I can live completly separated from my parents...I have same adress as them, but it really is not a big deal...so, I don't really see why shoud I buy the house, or rent place to live, it would be waisting the money for nothing....

and, in my country average wage is about 700euros per month, so I would be way above that, actually my yearly wage would be similar to wage of our ministers in government (without bonsues ofcourse hahaha)...
I'm not rich, and, I still the live student life without obligations, drinkin the same cheap beer (but it is really good!!) ...driving the old calibra 2.0 4x4...just today, i don't ask parents for money for fuel...heh...

I feeld kinda stupid for asking the question at all, but okay, as I'm future owner of an m3, I'm glad to sing up to forum...heh, just didn't realize that this it is an USA m3 forum...

Probably just a culture thing, no worries. In the US, it's not normal to live with (or on the same property as) your parents when you're basically on your own making your own money. In your country it's probably not a big deal, so all the power to you.

I would also look into your savings. If you are going to blow all of your savings on a down payment, then have an expensive car payment, it's probably not a good idea. You should always have a few months worth of pay saved up so you can live comfortably in the event something happens and you lose your job. Or if something happens and you need to spend a lot of money to fix something else that breaks. A lot of things can happen, and it's better to be prepared with a good amount of savings.
