I just got done with my second car wash and noticed lots of swirls on the high gloss window trim in the sun. Note: I take meticulous care when I wash my cars so this is bothersome. no wonder most window trims are matte black or non existent.

Bust out a dual action polisher, then apply something like Opti-Coat or CQuartz to them. BMW paint is super soft so you are going to swirl the heck out of the paint without some sort of durable protection on it.

You probably got FISO - factory installed swirl option - on the trim! Its pretty common actually. Could have been dealer installed also.

Proper washing and a bit of polishing now and then should keep them looking good.

Same issue here, I like to look at it as FISO. It puts my mind at ease.

What you need to do is:

...spread some wax on the car

BUT DON'T WASH IT

...then buy a hog hair brush

BUT DON'T WASH IT

...then get a clay bar and go over the whole surface, including windows

BUT DON'T WASH IT

etc, etc, etc until you've spent a minimum of $300

Then WASH THE CAR

...dry with a natural microfibre lambskin organic alpaca wool chamois

That stuff is a bit of a pain, there's a decent guide to caring for it over on the 1er detailing forum:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215977

I find that a light polish, just hand applied will clean up any imperfections in it, and a single layer of sealant will keep it looking swirl free for months.

Being a black car owner noob, I washed it. Then in my horror I understood my mistake. Good thing was that it was not to late to do it right.

Id probably have washed it too. I've learned from the ridiculous swirl marks on my cars than I'm not going to use a brush any more...at least, on my future cars. Pressure washer or sponge, that's all.

All the advice given to the OP being to wax or polish...but.. isn't it plastic gloss trims.??? Pointless to polish or wax it.. you need to use something liks PlastX to restore it

You guys should research detailing techniques, check out the Autogeek or Autopia forums.

FYI you can correct swirls in black plastic in addition to paint, and you can protect them from the elements using similar or sometimes the same product.

Personally, I like the new permanent coatings. They are not the same thing the dealer offers for hundreds of dollars that last 6mo to a year, they are coatings that are impervious to UVs, salt and chemicals. They are much harder than the BMW factory clear coats, so they will resist swirls much better, and the only thing that can remove them is friction, like compounding or polishing.

I know of what you speak. My solution is to paint the gloss black trim with a textured paint. I do this with every new car.
