You think that with all this technology..
..they would have something implemented for rear view mirrors to get back in original positions after someone else used your car...
I have been wondering for a long time now why they don't have something like that. It irritates me to no end that whenever my wife drives in my car, that everything goes back to my own preferred settings, lights, radio, chairs, exterior mirrors etc etc, but not the rear view mirror. Seriously, don't you think they should have something for this long time already? I get a compass in my rear view mirror (and why? lol) and a garage door opener, but this they don't make? ![]() (sorry for the rant, and if they do have something like this already, then my apologies as I am not aware of this )

Agree 100% although this will be the first time I've had a car with auto seats & mirrors so having to manually adjust the rear-view mirror will seem like a minor chore compared to the numerous pre-flight adjustments I have to make currently!
I imagine the mechanics to make this work would take up a fair bit of space, but that's it. Do any other manufacturers have auto rear-view mirrors? ![]()

Hello SVache,
I thought they do ??? Isn't that what the button 1 and 2 by the driver's seat do? I thought the buttons 1 & 2 align: - the driver's seat position, - the steering column, - the two outside rear view mirrors - the HVAC settings last used by the choosen driver, - lighting and, - the radio station last used by the driver? Could someone please confirm?? or should i read the Manual..?? I thought all the above was the purpose for the Premium package...

Haha, someone's a little lazy I think
![]() Regarding the external mirrors, they do return to the correct positions if you use one key each, don't they? If you use the same key the car doesn't know that it wasn't your preferences that changed. |

Saving your rearview mirror position would require adjustment by motors, adding cost, weight and 1 more thing to break. Just not realistic for something that takes all of 1 second and a simple twist of the hand to adjust. Maybe a more realistic alternative would be a "back up or rear view" camera that is always running in place of the mirror.

Some trim levels of the s-class have that functionality.

you are lazy the internal rear view mirror is one place i dont need them to motorize it... would be too complicated and add unnecessary weight... i prefer the KISS method...

Is the rear-view mirror compass standard?

I feel your frustration, svache, but it's a minor adjustment. At least there are memory preferences for everything else.
I'll be glad to get my F30, cos my current Audi TT doesn't have memory anything. When my brother uses my car, it's a pain to have to adjust everything back to my preference (and it's never quite the same, perfect adjustment) - length, height, inclination (back & seat), steering height, steering column length, exterior mirrors AND rear view mirror. F30: Press 1 button, manually adjust rear view mirror. Give thanks for small mercies, eh?

Seriously guys?
Laziness? A simple twist of the hand? Sure, perhaps so, but that is not the point. The point is, we have.. - Electric windows (how hard is it to use the old fashioned crank?). - Electric mirrors on the outside (again, a simple twist of the hand to set them to the correct position). - Automatic seats (it's a simple pull or push to put the seat up, down, back, forward). - Automatic parking function (seriously, I thought one of the requirements to have a driver license is to be able to park). - Blind spot warning (how hard is it to turn your head a little bit further?) - Cruise control (keep your foot still...) - Active cruise control (adjust your speed yourself when there's another car in front of you) - Lane chance warning (don't fall asleep..but then again, I could see how this is also a safety issue) - Traffic sign recognition (if you don't know the signs, you shouldn't be on the road) And so on and on and on... the list is really long. Size and weight? Really? I would be surprised if a small motor and a few small gears would add even more than a few ounce to the whole weight. You're not going to notice that.. size wise the same thing, it will not add that much as some of you may think. We're not talking gears from a bicycle here, it's minor stuff, think about the stuff you can find inside small RC cars. The thing is not that I want it or need it, it just baffles me that with all the the cars already have things, they never added this. You could say this is something unnecessary, and perhaps that is true, but so would all other functions be imho and that is what it is about, there is so much, why not this? ![]()
