What makes BMW think that wouldn't sell here in the USA?
What's sad about this is that the US could cut its gasoline consumption by 15% or so if we could convert just half the cars out there to diesels. All without fancy (and environmentally questionable) battery technology, exotic fuels (hydrogen), electric refilling stations (also environmentally questionable given our reliance on coal for electric generation), etc. No infrastructure cost at all, in fact, since nearly all gas stations sell diesel. It would be fairly easy to do: just change highway fuel tax rules to make sure gasoline is always about 20 cents a gallon more expensive than diesel (you could do this by either taxing gasoline more, or diesel less, or some combo of the two). Couple the pump price savings with the instant 30% increase in fuel economy (comparing to an older gasoline car, which would be the first to be ditched in favor of the newfangled diesels) and you would find a huge diesel market in the US. But instead we pursue technologies that won't pay off for decades.

You keep posting this, yet everytime I ask you for a source you ignore it. Googling "F30 320d Canada" brings nothing but bimmerpost and bimmerforums threads.

New A4 is already out for a month now, didn't do well against F30 though

That's not really a new A4, it's a refreshed A4, similar to the refreshed C-Class. I think he's talking about the complete new cars.

Tested 2012 A4 v BMW F30 320d Sport

The look of the F30 is certainly keeping the forums busy, from some angles there is no denying it looks disjointed, however, from others it looks good. It was to be my default choice as the lease on my current E90 320d M Sport ends soon. I test drove it against the revised A4 and A5 last week & am happy to report that despite the A4/A5 being the better looking cars (inside and out) the F30 drove so much better.
Took out manual & auto both fabulous, slight offset pedals on manual may deter some but the car felt so right on the road, more compliant that my current E90 (welcome news, getting older!) and the steering despite being electrically assisted felt so assured, lighter at low speed (again a step up from the E90) the Audis for all their looks handled poorly (Sportsline trim tested) steering felt numb and lifeless...even drove an A6 as its getting rave reviews over here in the UK (better than the other 2 by quite a margin) however still get the the buzz the Beemer gives you so have ordered a 320i Sport Manual Leather 397s Xenons & Sunroof in White...only downside it doesn't get here till June 8th!!!

And spend $450 on a diesel tuning box and not only enjoy the fuel savings, but you will have a V8 killer.

320d gearbox and diff ratios - 8 speed - power to weight - and torque... bye bye V8's.

I feel ill on the owners behalf, the number of times I have embarrassed the owners of these so called "Muscle Cars" from the General.

Particularly weak from 110kms to 210kms... simply have no pull and the 4 cyl diesel kills these pieces of puss EVERY time..

But a non GM car like this one would be more of a problem I guess.
