M-Sport Package: Just cosmetic for the USA...?

I know things are still vague, even after a second sticky with additional details on the exterior and interior details, but I'm getting the feeling that the look is all for the US M package, and that additional German engineering marvels, if any, will be additional options.

No?

Yeah, from what I've read so far it seems like the only differences, besides the cosmetics, is that it will have stiffer anti-roll bars. Everything else (M Sport Suspension and adaptive M suspension) you can get on a non-M sport package F30. Hopefully there's more they haven't told us yet..

Yes, mostly cosmetic...

AFAIK, the M-Sport suspension should be sportier than the normal Sport suspension in the Sport line.

However, my bet is that we will get the Adaptive M-Sport included in the US, so nothing you could not already get on the Sport Line.

I would assume we would have the option to give BMW more $$ to get the M-Sport brakes, at least on the 335i model.

Yep, thanks for the correction. I mistakenly thought you could get the M Sport Suspension as an option as well...my bad.

I hope the M sport suspension (passive) is really good. I plan on keeping the car for a while and I'm kinda scarred of the M Adaptive Suspension. If it's much more complicated than the passive setup, than it may also be more prone to end up in for a costly repair after warranty?

AFAIK Sport Line comes with standard suspension for most markets outside of USA, so for US Sport Lines the sport suspension may just be M-sport passive by another name.
So far there are only 3 suspension choices for RoW/EU markets:
Standard, M-sport (passive) & M-adaptive.
Only difference between M-sport (passive) & M-adaptive is the latter have adaptive dampers. Otherwise they have the same springs & ARBs.

Mags are saying now the M-Sport will get bumped to 335 HP, see your latest CD or Automobile but that seems odd given they tested at Barcelona with everybody else and I havent seen it anywhere else. More knowledgeable folks need to jump in since I couldn't see waiting another 6 months for aesthetics and perhaps more aggressive damping/roll ( dealer told me Sport Line with M adaptive and M-Sport will have same ride height, in stock form it looks like an X car.

Interesting. So is the US Sport suspension - option 704 - listed in the guide the same as the M-Sport passive suspension? I have a full German option list but will have to check tonight as I can't find source link now.

Yep, option 704 is the (passive) M Sport suspension.

Best regards,

Thanks south. So, M-Sport is essentially cosmetic, except for the brake option.

BTW, I think you drove the 328i with adaptive suspension in Barcelona. What is your optinion on this vs. the passive one? What were your thoughts on the adaptive steering?

Any comment on MickeyM3's post about potential for power increase on M-Sport 335i. I would guess this is a future option 1-2 years out and not a launch options since the M-Sport catalog info is now out and there is not mention of it.

I haven't driven it yet but I'd go with the passive suspension. The adaptive suspension is nice but it felt softer than I wanted in most settings. That being said, I'm coming from an E92 M3 with passive sports suspension (no EDC) so take my preferences with a grain of salt.

As to the power increase, BMW mentioned with me that they see potential for a small power upgrade (to 315-320hp) but it didn't sound like this was limited to the M Sport models.

Best regards,
south

Isn't the availability of a 320hp version of the N55 essentially a "given"? Certainly an F30 version of the E90 Performance Retrofit Kit will be offered, right? Or is the question really when this option will be included at no charge?

By the way, the F30 Activehybrid has been widely advertised as delivering 335hp total. Mayby this is the 335hp figure that people have been seeing in the magazines.

I doubt it. I recall that there has never been an M-sport package involving power increase over it's base, not for EU/RoW at least.

The reference to a HP bump to 335 can be found in the Feb issue of Automobile, page 59 in top portion of the sidebar. Apparently I was mistaken about CD referencing the same bump in their Feb issue F30 test. Sorry I can't provide a link....not now anyway.

so by opting for the passive suspension w the msport line, does that get rid of the rocker switch of Comfort/Sport+ ?

No, it's still there but only affects throttle, steering, transmission, etc.
