How long before the first F30 break-in occurs solely because some thief thinks that there is indeed an iPad jammed into the center console? I mean, there are some really stupid people out there...

In one of the video reviews, the reviewer repeatedly says it resembles an iPad sticking out of the dashboard. I tend to agree:

I wonder when driving at night if the screen is going to reflect in the windshield and be distracting? The current design set back in the dash doesn't allow that to occur.

I don't see anything "stupid" in quickly... "removing"

this larger display from someone else's car with navigation feature built-in and then reselling it on eBay to people with smaller "stock" displays (who didn't order their cars with navigation option)

Actually I hated it in the first pics. But I went to a BMW dealer and saw it in a 6 coupe, and it was not a deal breaker.

I would like it if it re-tracked into the dash, but in the 2 and 4 coupe this is not going to happen.

This new navigation screen looks like it's stuck halfway from being completely free of the dash, or like it can't retract itself entirely back into the dash. The E90 screen is integrated nicely into it's own hood; not to mention the E90 screen doesn't get washed out in bright sunlight. Will the new one stand up to bright light?

It will just stand via the dash - The designers see it as having a flat screen TV in your car. At extra expense to BMW they have coated the screen with a glass that does not show up glare in strong sunlight.

See, we customers must be wrong to think of it as looking stupid. It's a "flat screen TV" in our cars!

I agree. the e9X solution in adding an extra hump to the top of the dash is awkward at best.

I'm only going off pictures, but I like the thought of it being higher on the dash. I do find that I have to look down at mine when driving, so it should help safety wise.

I agree with this, but also wish there were still a way to just leave it all out. I find that nav ages cars faster than anything else and still prefer to adjust my climate control and radio with actual hard buttons.

From a pure styling stand point, I can see the allure of it having the screen retract when the car's off, but from a longevity and overall view point, I think the fixed screen makes the most sense.
