WTF are you looking at?

From the looks of the list, all you need to do is wait until 3 am to drive home..

Thanks for the info!
Even if you aren't drinking it sucks when it's 1am and you're stuck behind 2879128379182 cars at a DUI checkpoint.

i'm by no means some big supporter of MADD or related organizations, but the fundamental ideology behind driving after drinking in the US is broken, especially from a prospective of the world. we define intoxicated higher than most countries. take japan, for example...DUI is .03 BAC or higher, with nearly certain jail time as a result of one conviction. consequently, you would be hard pressed to find one japanese person even consider driving after they've had a drink, also due in part to vigorous enforcement. now, just think if we had similar laws here. do you think we would have as high a number of DUI incidences? i know it would sure deter people from doing it in such numbers. so back to my original point, DUI checkpoints are nothing more than a drag net of revenue generating stations. most of the people caught in them will likely be first time offenders and get nothing more than an expensive slap on the wrist. statistically, most of them aren't likely to get another DUI. the habitual dangerous offenders will get caught, no matter what, because to police, they're easy to pick out. i have a friend that just got out of prison for 4 DUI convictions, and he'll tell you that none of them were by mistake. he's lucky, IMO, because he got them here in america and it took 4 convictions to finally lock him up, even though he only did 8 months on a 2 year sentence. |

Government does not know what to do with DUI laws, because they don't want to stop this revenue stream. They just keep making penalties stiffer every few years, yet the number of DUI cases hasn't fluctuated significantly in any direction. So, I agree with Blake, it's nothing more than a temporary inconvenience. Some people will learn from it, some wont, but the number of people in a drunk tank on any given weekend night will not change.
