How do so many people mistake the accelerator for the brakes? I mean, are you kidding me?

Isn't that Cornwall dropoff where they pushed Clarkson's RV over the edge?

I have 3 thoughts:

The drivers of all the "left the handbrake off" ones should be banned from ever buying a non-automatic car.

The drivers of all the "mistook the brake for the accelerator ones" should be banned from driving - PERIOD! I'm completely serious, If you can't figure that out then you need to not drive.

And finally .... number 22 .... seriously????? "
The driver jumped out, ran alongside and pulled out her son, just two feet from the edge"
Umm .. yeah .... don't hit the brake, put it in park or turn the wheel away from the cliff or anything ....... you were moving slower than you can run, but you didn't think of ANY of those things???

I've only done it once, and I think I was around 17, but the car was in park. I wasn't really paying attention and went to put my foot on the brake to shift out of park and hit the gas instead. Not really any defense, but the brake and gas were super close in my old car, to the point I couldn't wear Nike Shox because there wasn't enough room between the brake pedal and the transmission tunnel to put my foot.

Regardless it was definitely a "how'd you manage to do that you moron" moment.

The driver of this car tried to negotiate her way out of a traffic jam - only to drive into a lane of freshly laid cement

So sick of people using cement and concrete interchangeably... yes, this ruined the article for me.
