I'm pretty sure the ZF 8 can handle quite a lot of torque, Audi had to use it on the RS7/S8 because the S-Tronic DSG could not handle the torque of the 4.0 TFSI which is around 520 lb-ft in the highest state of factory tune.
I couldn't tell, but does this Alpina offer a LSD? It looks beastly, wonder about the cost.

Wikipedia, there is a variant used in a Bentley capable of handling 900 lb-ft...holy crap that must be one hell of a torque converter!! I'd guess the 3 series shares the 8HP45 with the 1/5 series', which can handle about 450 lb-ft at the crank. Maybe someone has a better source than
